Arctic Data Services specializes in environmental data quality consulting. Our chemists have extensive experience with every aspect of environmental data quality, having provided quality assurance planning and data validation services in support of projects for various state, local, and tribal governments and numerous federal agencies, including the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Our chemists have served as lead authors on dozens of quality assurance project plans, reviewed hundreds of laboratory data packages, validated thousands of soil, water, and air sample results, and authored hundreds of data quality assessments / quality assurance reports. Our relationships with major commercial laboratories and our excellent reputation with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and the US Army Corps of Engineers are a huge asset to our clients on complex projects. Stage 2A Data Validation


We specialize in quick, efficient, cost-effective review of analytical laboratory data at the Stage 2A level (includes those elements on an Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation data review checklist). Our in-house ADR maximizes our efficiency; however, you can be assured that every sample-result will undergo final review by an experienced chemist. We provide a client portal to allow our clients to easily upload and download files and monitor progress. In addition to reviewing individual laboratory data packages, we provide a summary of data quality for your report based on our review, ranging from a brief report section to a full data quality assessment (DQA).

Stage 2B, 3, and 4 Data Validation


These more detailed levels of review involve evaluation of QC elements such as initial and continuing calibration, method-specific performance criteria, and instrument tunes, all the way to independent recalculation of results based instrument response and review of raw data. Chemical Data Quality Review


We have extensive experience preparing chemical data-quality review (CDQR) reports for Department of Defense (DoD) projects. Our owner and principal chemist Rodney Guritz has over 12 years of experience conducting data-quality review in accordance with DoD (including US Army Corps of Engineers) requirements and has authored numerous CDQR reports for DoD projects. Mr. Guritz also has experience preparing Uniform Federal Policy Quality Assurance Program Plans (UFP-QAPPs), and can serve as (or assist) your project chemist on your next DoD project.

Emerging Contaminants


With our expertise in chemistry and analytical data review, we are well position to assist you with any project involving emerging contaminants. Emerging contaminants (or contaminants of emerging concern – CECs) are all around us, but have only been recently identified as presenting significant health or environmental risks. For these classes of contaminants, there are few standardized analytical methods and significant variability in field sampling methods. Additionally, some well-known contaminants require highly specialized and sensitive analysis that requires additional care in evaluating the results. We have experience working with several such contaminants, including:

  • Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS); e.g. PFOS and PFOA
  • Dioxins
  • Sulfolane
